Pleasant and cozy atmosphere. Service was friendly, quick, and great! Food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a beef and then a seafood sondobu. The beef choice/cut is a bit different from what I am normally used to for Sondubu cuisines but I was still very satisfied with the taste of the soup! The beef was more of a ground beef than beef slices for those wondering. The seafood sondubu was also just as tasty! There was plenty clam, shrimp, scallops and baby octopus. The flavor was so comforting and paired nicely during the cold weather when we visited. It was rich, nourishing, and even refreshing. There was also enough spiciness to give it a flavorful kick! The only confusing part was where to park since it was a bit busy at the time and we were not local to that area. The lot was full but there were other customers kind enough to redirect us to parking on the side of the street. Would recommend Mahdang if you are in the Rockville area and are craving great kfood!

The location of this place is a little out of the way from the major roads but it wasn't too hard to find. I came here for a quick lunch around 1 pm with my friend cause I was really craving some bossam and this is one of the few places that I know does it. We were seated right away and there wasn't too many customers at the time so it was pretty quiet and peaceful. On their menu they also offer a lot of different combinations of different items on their menu (like hot stones soups, casseroles, bossam, etc.) which I thought was interesting and seemed like a better deal especially if you have more people in your party. We were immediately offered the traditional hot barley tea or water. I really liked how big the cups were and they used metal cups instead of plastic which help keep my tea hotter for longer. Right off the bat I really like how this place gave so many side dishes compared to other places I've been to where they only give a few. We ended up getting a mix between radish kimchi and the regular kimchi, fish cakes, bean sprouts, pickled radish, and some seasoned veggies which all tasted great that we even asked if we could have seconds. We ended not getting the bossam as it was too big of a portion for the 2 of us, but we ended up getting the LA galbi and the Mukeunji galbijim casserole dish (which included pork rib, kimchi, tofu, and rice cakes) instead. Overall the food I would say is pretty authentic Korean food and is one of the better Korea restaurants in the Maryland area. The food came out relatively fast and our casserole dish was already precooked and ready before they set it on the stove. And it ended up not needing too much more time on the gas stove as the meat was already super tender and the flavor of the fermented kimchi was already pretty pungent. It was also nice that our server came over and cut up the kimchi into small bite sized pieces (but you can also ask them not to do this and just cut off the root as I know some people prefer the bigger pieces) and also helped us separate the pork ribs into individual portions for us. I really enjoyed the flavor of the soup as you can tell they did a really nice job fermenting the kimchi and the pork rib was soo tender along with the huge pieces of tofu they gave. Overall the casserole dish was such a big portion even for 2 people, that we ended up not being able to finish the whole thing. The only downside of this meal which is why I took a star away was the galbi and rice were kind of more on the colder side when first brought out. Although the galbi had a really nice flavor and it was much easier to get the meat off the bone compared to other restaurants I've been to, it didn't come out completely hot when it was first brought out. Even though it was served on the hot stone plate, there wasn't any sizzle and felt like it was precooked and had been sitting for a while and wasn't entirely fresh almost. The rice was also a little cold for my friend when they brought it out too which I found kind of strange thinking it might be pre-portioned and had been sitting out too which I didn't love. Overall the service was pretty good as well, I felt as if we were always checked in on by multiple people and never felt like we were unattended to which was nice to see. Would definitely want to come back and hoping today with some of the food being not super hot was just a fluke or if it's was just the stuff we ordered.

Was craving jokbal and saw they had this on the menu but we accidentally ordered bossam lol. Anyway the bossam was tender. I really liked the dipping sauce, it was nice and salty given the bossam comes unseasoned. You get two kinds of lettuce for wrapping, purple leaf lettuce (fresh) and napa (likely pickled). We also ordered mandu guk but I forgot to take a picture. It's meat broth based so has a rich flavor and very warming in winter. Staff was friendly. Post on social media to get a free soda!

Delicious homey Korean food! Definitely recommend the bossam, seafood pancake, and the squid and beef jjigae (squid is pretty tough but flavor is so good).

The food was delicious and seemed pretty traditional to me. I liked that they welcome you with an assortment of little appetizers, it includes kimchi and seasoned bean sprouts we didn't order much but everything we ordered was delish. I was very curious about the tteokbokki so we ordered one. It was good, kinda sweet but spicy! The wings were very good too and the mandu was excellent! The service was great, everyone was very attentive and friendly. We loved the decorations because they seemed traditional and made us appreciate their culture, they also gave the space a special touch. We really liked the wooden tables and chairs. Definitely a spot to go back to!

Impressive portions and great service awaits you at mahdang. The space is tucked away in a blue collar neighborhood of Rockville but do not skip out. Food wise, i wish there was a bit more umami flavor in my bulgogi and soup. The spicy wings weren't spicy but the breading was perfect and it was cooked well. Favorite dish is the scallion pancake. The veggie one is delicious and huge. Will go back for more.
